Experimentation - Silk Printing

These are my experiments on printing. I took a photo from the Barcelona photos and drew it on a piece of paper that was able to be ironed on. I started to paint away with these specific inks and once I was done, I had to get some silk tape it down and put the painting on top, then I got the iron and ironed it because with the compressed heat it transfers the ink onto the silk, but as you can see on some of the photos the ink is faded and the reason why is that I had fold my paper up, so it was a harder job to get the ink to really come out. Once I found out why I had to try again and as you can see in the photos the ink really started to come out much thicker.

from the four photos below, you can see that I painted these images in the special printing ink, I found it hard to make detail because I didn't want to make it simple as in making all of the colours just one single colour without tone. so I mixed the inks to create lighter tones and this is what I got out of it. I'm happy with what I produced and I'm happy to what I got out of it after.

this part was the hardest because I couldn't mixed the tone of the colours into the colour that I needed, as you can see the faces are yellow with a few tones dropped in. I wanted a dark pink but it was hard to get the pink dark without looking like something else.
This part didn't take me as long because it was smaller that the person on the bike and the guy in green. I like how I put the tones in on this one, but then again I don't because the colours are still simple, but you can see that I tried to add the tone in .

This part didn't take as long but for me it was hard because it's so small and I wanted to put as much detail into it as much as I could, but as you can see in this photo it shows that I've put a lot of detail into it and I'm happy about it

this is an overview of what I painted, even though I don't like painting I was really proud of myself for doing so because in my mind I think it's properly the best painting I've done to be honest.
this was my first silk print that I did. as you can see it's strongly faded because of the amount of layers of paper that was on top of the painting and as I went to iron it down, it came out like this because there wasn't enough pressure applying down to it. My thoughts about this is that it's really nice in a way that it turned out like that because it gives the sense of looking at it to figure out what it is.

this is the other side of the strongly faded silk print, you can't see as much but you can justify where the people are and attempt to see the colours in the print.
this was the second attempt to get a clear strong image, I did it again because I thought I wasn't doing it right and so I increased the pressure of the iron down a bit more and got this in return. I'm still proud of it but I like the stronger and clear version much better than the rest. as you can see this experiment was the stronger version out of the rest because I ripped off a few papers that was making the faded versions and out came this. I liked it because obviously it was something different than the other two experiments which I'm glad off because it shows that I've improved

In this photo you can see that I took my time on giving detail on the two people in this painting, but the outcome didn't really show my work because of the man in the green. It was meant to be a darker green with some other even darker green parts into it. The bicycle in this print is too bright and as you can see in the original painting it's far more darker than it is on this print.

In this photo it shows the print of the two people walking and to be honest I didn't like the walking woman in this print because as again it came out too brighter than the original painting.

As you can see this is the overview of my strong version silk print, which I think is great because it really shows my hard work on the tone of colours in some areas such as the man on the bicycle and the two other small people on the right, on the other hand the man in the green doesn't really make me satisfied because it has no tone into it apart from he legs. But over all I find this experiment a success because I liked painting it, I found it as a challenge to do so because painting in a sense is not my cup of tea. But I had nice comments about the painting and also the prints from my friends and teachers.
